Have you ever had any financial disasters by not having any medical insurance?

Hi all! A friend of mine recently had a sensitivity attack and he survived it, which is obviously fantastic for him. But, about two months after his discharge form the hospital, he had to file personal Chap. 7 bankruptcy because he owed the hospital about $55,000. hahaha!!! His wife also left him once she realized he went broke (a.k.a. predictable American woman-hahaha) and he lost two cars and he lost a lofty, expensive household because he had limited assets to pay his BIG, unexpected medical bill. I reckon we should all have some kind of universal shape care in house here in the US to prevent financial catastrophes like this from happening to anyone. Do you agree with me? We will all make sick at some point. It’s just a matter of time. Let me question you. Have you ever had any financial disasters by not having any medical insurance? Any answer would be appreciated. Thankfulness!

No, because I studied hard and went to college.
BUT, if this man had a lofty expensive household, he should have (1) had insurance initially before buying the household and (2) HE SHOULD HAVE HAD MONEY SAVED UP for emergencies instead of spending it all on a lofty household and lofty vehicles.
Any family tree with a lofty household ought to be able to handle a $55,000 unexpected bill. Otherwise, they should have saved money instead of buying the household. He should have bought insurance too instead of buying a lofty household.
I am not a G-Man, but all F.B.I. agents are covered.
I had a household fire not covered by medical insurance. Fortunately, I had fire insurance.
statistically speaking over 50% of all financial disasters come about 2 months after having to have major medical treatment.
Yes I had what the Kennedy family tree falsley claimed was an accident. They did not even cover my funeral expenses. By the time they found me I did not require any medical attention thankfulness to that Stout B Teddy.

Anyone who can’t afford their own insurance can apply for help…otherwise we just suck it up and pay through work. It’s expensive, but it’s not worth the alternative. And no, a woman that leaves you for financial reasons is not a “predictable American woman.” If she is, you’re probably from another country pal.
Look.. your friend sounds rich. He has no excuse for not having insurance. That is his own damn fault and he deserves it.
People who can’t afford it should have some sort of govn. healthcare, but people like your friend…
When my mother had 8 mini strokes and broke her hip, my parents had to file bankruptcy.
My husband lost his job due to back surgery and we are semi struggling now.
You lost all respect for your question with me with “predictable american woman”. I would have answered your question with respect but you didn’t question it in the same manner.
I also studied hard and went to college, but I have a major illness and have racked up about 30k in medical debt. I’m contemplating filing The boards 7 as we speak.
No I live in the uk we dont pay here only 7 pounds for a prescription. But seriously its things like that would stop me moving to the usa.People have embattled the government for less and ye are putting up with that bs ! ye are better off to bring the troupes home and spend the money on Americans who are failing to make adequate medical treatment in worry of a large bill that they cant afford ( thats just my 2 cents ! )
Your dig about “American women” is offensive. It sounds like your friend had adequate assets to cover his medical expenses. But I am glad he survived his sensitivity attack.
Yes. My 16 year ancient son recently got sick. He left work to see the doctor ($120), who refered him to the emergency room ($4000), who refered him to a specialist. As a family tree, we can not afford valuable shape and preventative care, not remember seeing the dentist, and if any of us gets sick, we are on our own. Do we work? yes. Do we have college degrees? yes. Do we pay taxes? yes. Would we house the country of our birth which we like to make valuable shape care? You betcha.
No, i have been solely responsible for all my own financial disasters, thank you.
No. I have never subjected my family tree to this kind of ignorance. Everyone knows they cannot afford what a hospital stay will cost. Some don’t care.
They are willing to bear the cost of the incompetency, and let you and me pay for their ignorance.
Your friend did not lose all those things because he owed a huge medical bill. You said he filed bankruptcy about two months after he was discharged from the hospital. Hospitals seldom turn over their accounts to collection agencies earlier than two months after the bill is owed. Also, it takes some time for a lien to be gotten on assets or income to collect and two months is way too soon. Your friend had money problems long before his sensitivity attack and I suspect his wife left him for reasons other than financial matters. This is the type of tale used to scare people into accepting the “universal shape care” lie.
There is a lie being perpetrated that catastrophic illness and the resulting debt that goes with it destroys people’s lives. That is not so. Hospitals have personnel on site to aid those in need obtain the necessary funding to make whatever treatment is needed paid for or partially paid for. Upon discharge, a hospital will negotiate terms for payment on any money owed them with the patient. No hospital or collection agency comes and takes your home, your car, or your paycheck because you owe them money.
That’s disgusting. More and more people will figure out that shape care costs are out of control. Notice that more and more hospitals are hiring while the rest of the country is cutting back? Hospitals are out of control and abusing their position. It’s the movie theater/sports stadium exploitative tactic, rip off people whenever you can take advantage mentality.
Notice more and more of the local losers in town are taking stupid classes at community colleges in order to make a job at a hospital? They’re hiring like crazy when their towns are dying! They all know it too! Of course, hospitals know they are under no pressure to keep their costs in line or clarify them, so they are jacked up to exploit insurance companies and people.
Accountability is coming to a town near you.
YEA! and now I’m uninsurable! I’m a veteran and don’t be eligible for VA. Why, you have me by the __________. I do make two, count them, two check ups per year and my meds from them at $8.00 per med. I take 7 in the am, and 4 in the pm, but anything else not remember about it! Nothing dental and as age creeps up on you teeth do have problems also!
I even had to pay out of my own pocket my trip, about 150 miles round trip, for a sensitivity scan.
If I had to go into a hospital, VA may not pay for it (as it says on their automated phone service).
I have a Upright discharge from the Navy (Viet Nam).
nearly..
my husband has multiple sclerosis, and ONE of his critical meds costs 2,000 per month. I just finished spending nearly 2 months, to make him reinstated after insurance made a mistake and cancelled his policy.
I don’t have insurance, and have medical problems that are going untreated. I won’t go back to Parkland hospital in Dallas for emancipated care..not after a guy waited in the ER for 19 hrs, and died there without being seen for his sensitivity attack.
Those who are against universal shape care would change their mouths, real quick, if they ever lived real life. Or, like some, real death.
edit
I won’t even try to address stupidity that “it is people’s own fault”… like my husband intentionally got ms, and is in a wheelchair on purpose.
No, because I live in a country where you make care even if you can not pay.
FACT – the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet.
FACT – the US has higher death tariff for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal shape coverage.
That means that a exhausted American four year ancient would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan…
