What impact on Social Security & Medicare beneficaries could this planned reform have?

Question by Virginia B (John 16:33): What impact on Social Security & Medicare beneficaries could this intended reform have?
WASHINGTON – President-elect Barack Obama said Wednesday that reforming massive government entitlement programs — such as Social Security and Medicare — would be “a central section” of his try to control federal spending.

Obama made the pledge but provided few details as he named Nancy Killefer as his administration’s chief performance officer, making a new White Household position aimed at eliminating government waste and improving efficiency.

Noting that the Congressional Budget Office had just estimated he would inherit a $ 1.2 trillion federal deficit for fiscal 2009, Obama promised to cut unnecessary spending.

“We expect that discussion around entitlements will be a section, a central section of those plans,” Obama said. “And I would expect that by February in line with the announcement of at smallest amount a rough budget outline we will have more to say about how we’re going to approach entitlement spending.”

Does this mean he is plotting to cut Medicare and Social Security benefits, as he said he promised to cut “unnecessary spending”? Thank you!

Our government does not listen to the public. They need to eliminate benefits to people that have never worked in America (not meaning the physical and mental disadvantaged right American born). You would not believe the foreigners that hear benefits, never contributed. These need to be taken off our benefits. Medical, medicaid, SSI, food stamps. That needs to be addressed, and eliminated really.

    Dear Friend,

If abortions would…STOP, that would aid the problem significantly since these precious lives would be benefiting social security. Duh. Look at all the lives that have been needlessly and selfishly ruined; while they could have been working individuals paying into social security …over the years.

Obama will not cut Social Security and Medicare. Cutting government entitlements goes against the belief of socialism. If anything, he will expand them and make them more complicated. If you want more insight into where the country is going under the Obama administration, check out Rahm Emanuel’s book. Here is the link.

One section of medicare that he does not like is the drug program. Apparently the different shape care providers make money from the government for the program. He feels like it is a waste of money on a wasted program. Hopefully he comes up with an alternative or he is going to have alot of seniors on medicade. I guess we have to wait and see just what he does.

Initially off, we need to demand that politicians stop calling Social Security an entitlement program. Workers are forced; by confiscatory methods, to place 12.4% of their income into this Ponzi scheme. The program has been running a surplus since the mid 60′s and every nickel spent. The program is more of a lofty welfare program for government than it is an entitlement program for citizens. Calling it an entitlement program is analogous to calling your IRA an entitlement program, even even if 100% of the money place into the account is from your pocket.

Just to set the record honest, Lyndon Johnson was the initially President to spend the social security surplus and every President and Congress has done the same since.

How is social security a Ponzi scheme? Initially off, money paid in is being used to pay current beneficiaries. The initially beneficiaries got the largest payouts (proportional to what they paid in), just like in a Ponzi scheme. The initially person to hear a monthly retirement check was Ida May Fuller from Ludlow, Virginia. Retiring in November 1939 when she turned 65, she started collecting her checks in January 1940. Living to the age of 100, she collected $ 22,888.92 in Social Security benefits in her lifetime. In total, she contributed $ 24.75 into the system, thus giving a return of over 90,000%. Current beneficiaries are being told they might make as small as a 70% return because the Social Security Trust Fund consists of IOUs, not investments.

Medicare is already bankrupt. Social Security will start paying out more than it collects a small time in the next 4 to 8 years. At that time, the government will need to make money from the Trust Fund and that means saving those IOUs. This will be done by raising income taxes so the young will be paying into social security twice. Since the prospect of 90% tariff tariff will cause massive social problems, the government will be forced to cut benefits (most likely to less than 50% of contributions) or raise the smallest retirement age (most likely to 72 years ancient or even older).

For Obama to fix the system, he will need to propose the same unpopular options as President Bush did. The only difference is that the Democrats and the media will not be demogoging the issue and the uneducated masses who were outraged by previous proposals will ignorantly agree with him and declare his proposals “wonderful.”

    I hope not!……
My mom stayed home to raise us kids. She did housecleaning jobs and ironing to bring in money.
Now she is on a fixed income. She gets a small social security check, a supplemental social security check, food stamps, and is covered by medicare and medicaid.
She takes about nine differnt prescriptions daily, which are covered by medicare and medicaid. There is no way she could afford to pay for her medications.
My mom is one of the people who’s very well-being depends on these things…she is 81 years ancient…its not like she can just run out and make a job!
I pray that Mr. Obama does not place the elderly and disabled in the “I could care less” file!

May the compassion of Christ our noble be with us!

    with like…”D”
